King of fruits

Whenever my mum and I talked about pregnancy and kids, she never fail to litter our conversation randomly with her experience of being pregnant with me. Apparently during my 10 months stint in her tummy, she had deep cravings for anything spicy (hence she attributes my newborn redish looking complexion to the mountain of chilli she ate!). Maybe that also explains my high level of tolerance towards that fiery vegetable. No meal of mine is complete without some form of chilli that blankets over the meal, be it a Chinese, western or Italian cuisine. I am pretty certain I must have done some form of damage in my stomach already with the extend of my chilli craze for as long as I can recall :s

Anyway back to my mum’s extreme food craving when I was a fetus. While she seem like such a health freak when expecting my brother Ivan, drinking lots of milk and eating lots of fruits, she went onto the other end of the spectrum with me and developed extreme cravings for the king of fruits DURIAN! Phew! Imagine what it must have been for my Dad having to lug back the heavy and spiky fruit through that whole 10 months while enduring the aftermath of durian burps from a smiling pregnant wife! Luckily enough he does not repel that pungent fruit, which might have been at least one redeeming factor!

Now… with my little growing peanut.. GOSH! I swear I can go on eating durians 3 meals a day for the next 6 months. I mean, I have always loved durians even before my pregnancy but never have I had such strong urge to eat it all the time! I can still freshly reminisce sinking my teeth into the gluey soft flesh of the bitter sweet fruit last week. Not polishing off every trace of meat on the shiny spotless seed is an absolute sin (baby are you reading this?). I have never been bothered about the after taste of the fruit but sadly, that is one main factor that deters Nic from devouring the entire tree HOWEVER…. he has progressed from eating just ONE miserable seed for my durian sessions to actually eating one whole fruit by himslf within a month!

Digression: To have a life partner not share the same passion that one has for their gourmet vices is really depressing!! Luckily for me, Nic is a food lover and we were born with the same sets of taste buds! Salmon sashimi is a definitely a big must for me.. which i sadly am deprived of heavily now *wail*

Some of the other durian products that I adore include:

Chilled Durian puffs

Rich and creamy durian ice cream

Durian Kueh (steam cakes)

Durian crepe

Durian Cake

Durian Dodol

Durian Chendol

But seriously, nothing comes remotely close to the real mccoy.. I am already starting to panic thinking what IF my cravings act up while I am back in the UK?!?! :s

I LOVE DURIANSSSSSSSS!!!!!!

DURIANS

Maybe baby Myla will need to have a baby sized fruit when she is born :)
